NEWBERRY, S.C. – The #23 Georgia College Men's Tennis team (3-0) continued their unbeaten run to start the 2019 season by defeating #17 Queens University (2-1) in Newberry, S.C. Friday morning, 4-2.

The Bobcats gained the edge with two dominant performances in doubles action to secure the team point.

In the first slot, the pairing of Robin Moller (Hamburg, Germany) and Matt Rogel (Sautron, France) kicked off the match with an impressive 6-2 performance versus Paolo Bompieri and Joe Dunlap. Augustin Aran Martin and Sebastian Muem pulled Queens even with a win in third flight singles, besting Nathan Connelly (McDonough, Georgia) and Enzo Kohn (Rio de Janiero, Brazil), 6-2. With the final match being played, in the second slot, Jannik Kumbier (Neumünster, Germany) and Noah Wallace (Grayson, Georgia) gave the Bobcats the doubles victory by controlling Julian Bosch and Kasper Rolfsen with a 6-3 score.

Rogel and Moller each helped to extend the Georgia College lead with key singles wins in the first and second slots. Rogel edged by Bompieri in a tight contest, 7-6, 7-6 and Moller outlasted Bosch 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.

With the Bobcats just a single point away from clinching the match, the Lions fought back with a pair of wins of their own.

In the third slot, Martin slipped by Kumbier in a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 contest. Mathias Degardin extended the match even further after a 6-4, 6-2 final over Kohn in fifth singles.

In spite of Queens' valiant comeback attempt, Wallace once again provided relief for the Bobcat men, securing the overall victory with a 6-4, 6-2 performance against Dunlap to end the day and complete the Bobcats' second upset of the year.

With Saturday's contest with Newberry College being postponed due to weather, the Bobcat men return to the courts Friday, Feb. 22 to take on Peach Belt Conference-foe Augusta University at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
