D2CCA Names Cook Region Player of the Year, Again Leads Bobcat Three on All-Region Team

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Georgia College Baseball second baseman Dylan Cook (Portola Valley, California) brought in his second Region Player of the Year award, as the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) announced its All-Southeast Region honorees.

Cook earned a slot on the first team and was chosen D2CCA Southeast Region Player of the Year. Teammates Cameron Busby (Grovetown, Georgia) and Matthew Miller (Escondido, California) also took spots on the second team.

Cook continues to add trophies to a standout senior season as the fourth Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Year in school history. The Bobcat senior finished the season with a .414 batting average, 14 home runs and 64 RBIs. The former gold glover added 63 runs scored and 23 steals as well. Cook is the first D2CCA Region Player of the Year and the first Bobcat honoree at second base through this organization.

The PBC Pitcher of the Year, Busby was a stopper in the Georgia College bullpen, finishing his sophomore season at 11-2 with a pair of saves and a 3.13 ERA. The righty also struck out 65 over his 83 1/3 innings, including a complete-game victory in his first start of the season at the PBC Tournament. The only other reliever to earn D2CCA All-Region for the Bobcats was Michael Newman in both 2007 and 2008.

Bobcat newcomer Miller made an immediate impact in the Georgia College outfield, hitting .396 with nine home runs and 48 RBIs. The All-PBC First Team pick balanced speed as well, stealing 25 bases and scoring 48 runs. The rightfielder had hits in 43 of his 46 games during the regular season, including a 29-game hit streak. Four other Bobcat outfielders have been named All-Region by the D2CCA, most recently Jake Sandlin in 2015.

Since the program's inception in 2007, Georgia College has now had 20 student-athletes named to the D2CCA All-Region list.

The season has come to a close for Bobcat Baseball, a year in which the squad went 33-17, finishing the regular season with 10 straight wins, taking the PBC No. 4-seed. Along with the three All-Region selections, the Bobcats swept the conference awards, with Cook as PBC Player of the Year, Busby as PBC Pitcher of the Year and Wesley Wommack (Monroe, Georgia) as PBC Freshman of the Year. It marks just the second time a conference school has won all three in the same season.

All first team D2CCA NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region selections, including Cook, will be included on the ballot for All-America consideration. The D2CCA All-America teams in football, men's soccer, women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball and softball are sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association. The All-America teams were formerly known as the Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America teams.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level.
