Bobcat Baseball’s Cook Earns ABCA/Rawlings All-America First Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) released its Rawlings Division II All-American Team, with Georgia College second baseman Dylan Cook (Portola Valley, California) earning a first team nod.

Cook's 2016 campaign will go down as one of the best in school history. The fourth Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Year in school history, Cook finished the season with a .414 batting average, 14 home runs and 64 RBIs. The former gold glover added 63 runs scored and 23 steals as well. The consensus Southeast Region Player of the Year, Cook is the 18th ABCA/Rawlings All-American in school history, but the first at second base.

Outfielder Jake Sandlin was the most recent Bobcat honoree, picking up a third-team slot a season ago, while shortstop Tanner Funk was the most recent first team selection in 2011.

The season has come to a close for Bobcat Baseball, a year in which the squad went 33-17, finishing the regular season with 10 straight wins, taking the PBC No. 4-seed. Along with the three All-Region selections, the Bobcats swept the conference awards, with Cook as PBC Player of the Year, Cameron Busby (Grovetown, Georgia) as PBC Pitcher of the Year and Wesley Wommack (Monroe, Georgia) as PBC Freshman of the Year. It marks just the second time a conference school has won all three in the same season.

The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 8,200 members represent all 50 states and 23 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth. The 73rd annual ABCA Convention will be held Jan. 5-8, 2017 in Anaheim, California.
