MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Splitting the game over nine pitchers, the staff for Georgia College Baseball (16-12) held Middle Georgia State University (23-8) in check, leading to a 9-1 win Tuesday at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats fell behind in the first, when the Knights got a two-out hit for a run. GC answered with three in the second, getting an RBI single from Shane Connahan (Beaver Springs, Pennsylvania) followed by a run-scoring double by Jayson Cook (Smyrna) and another RBI single from Cam Hill (Marietta).
Three more runs came across in the third, as Connahan added another run-scoring single. The senior leftfielder was also involved in the three-run eighth, driving in two more with a triple. Connahan finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a run.
Freshman Josh Hudgins (Dunwoody) got his first career start, going four innings and allowing the single run with three strikeouts. Junior Bradley Spinner (Roswell) got the win, throwing two hitless innings with four whiffs. The Bobcat staff set down 19 batters in a row from the fourth through the ninth. The nine pitchers combined to allow just three hits, fanning 10 and walking three.
Second baseman Cal Gentry (Perry) added two hits in three trips with a run.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 29 at 6 p.m., hosting Florida Tech (14-12). The Panthers host Flagler College today.
