#6 Georgia College Finishes Sixth in the Sandestin Collegiate Championship

DESTIN, Fla. – Led by senior Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.), the No. 6 Georgia College golf team finished with a score of 883, good enough for a sixth place finish at the Sandestin Collegiate Championship hosted by No. 11 University of West Florida. Nine of the top 25 teams in the country competed in the tournament.

Young finished tied for 16th overall with rounds of 72, 70 and 76 on on the par 71 course.

Freshman Gavin Harper (Twin City, Ga.) fired a 221 in the three rounds to finish tied 25th and Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) was three strokes behind to finish tied for 35th.

Senior Billy Shida (Duluth, Ga.) finished tied for 40 with rounds of 67, 75 and 83. Redshirt-sophomore Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) finished tied for 50 after firing 75, 73 and 80.

Lynn University won the tournament with a team score of 864 while Peach Belt Conference (PBC) member No. 16 Columbus State University finished second two strokes behind the leader. Delta State University finished third (874), Drury University at fourth (875) and No. 11 West Florida finished fifth (876).

Chase Smith of Delta State was the low medalist with 211 firing rounds of 68, 73 and 70.

The Bobcats return to the links Oct. 4-5 in the Aflac Invitational hosted by Columbus State University.
