GC Golf Takes 15th at Bobcat Invite, Davis Earns Top-25 Slot

EATONTON, Ga. – Facing a tough field of nine teams ranked in the national top-25, the Georgia College Golf team took 15th place at plus-72 for three rounds at the 2019 Bobcat Invitational this week. The Bobcats carded rounds of 306 and 291 with a 315 final round on Tuesday on the par-70, 6,730-yard Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee.

Sophomore Daniel Davis (Columbus) led the Bobcats for the second time this season, finishing 24th in the 81-golfer field at 10-over par. He had a 73 and 70 yesterday to go with today's 77.

Junior Austin Mancilla (Lawrenceville) was second on the team and 42nd overall, carding a 78 today to go with yesterday's 72 and 74 for 14-over par. Classmate Drew Duffie (Evans) was plus-23 in 69th place after a 79 and two 77s.

Freshman Hilton Beck (Macon) had a pair of 83s wrapped around a second-round even par effort for plus-26 in 75th. Round two was the best of the freshman's young collegiate career. Rounding out the starters was rookie Isaac Samples (Loganville), plus-41 in 79th.

The Bobcats also sent five individuals to the course, led by junior Alex Wells (Evans) in 69th. He posted a 77-76-80. Senior Mati Chiappero (Santa Fe, Argentina) is 74th with a pair of 76s and an 83, while freshman Michael Zachary (Johns Creek) owns finished plus-28 in 77th. Freshman JT Kling (Evans) is plus-39 in 78th, while senior Jake Minchew (Waycross) finished 80th at plus-45.

No. 2 Lynn University took the team title at 14-over par, the third title in the last four years for the Fighting Knights. Lynn finished nine strokes ahead of No. 9 Florida Southern College in second. Morgan Egloff of Rollins College took individual medalist at two-under. 

Of the 14 teams ahead of Georgia College, nine are ranked in the nation's top-25. Along with Lynn and FSC, the field included No. 1 Barry University, No. 3 University of West Florida, No. 6 Nova Southeastern University, No. 8 Saint Leo University, No. 20 Columbus State University, No. 22 Rollins and No. 23 Limestone College.

GC Golf is back in action Monday, March 25 traveling to Greenwood, South Carolina for the Bearcat Invitational.
