NEW ORLEANS, La. – Two weeks removed from achieving the highest region ranking in school history, the Georgia College men's cross country team remains at number four in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Region Poll released Tuesday.

Along with Georgia College, the other Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools also held on to their top-10 regional rankings. UNC Pembroke slides in just ahead of the Bobcats at number three while Columbus State University and Augusta University each slipped a spot. Columbus State fell from number five to number six and Augusta fell from number six to number seven as Mars Hill overtook the two PBC schools earning the fifth spot.

In their most recent meet, the Bobcats, led by senior James Ryden (Atlanta, Georgia), finished 15th out of 37 Division II teams represented at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sept. 26. The team finished with an average time of 28:08 in the 8K, good for their fastest team time of the season.

The team will look to keep up the excellent pace this year as they approach their next meet, where they will take on top competition from around the state.

The next contest for Bobcat cross country will be Saturday, Oct. 10 as they host the Division II Georgia Collegiate Championships, a Bobcat home meet on the new Council Farm Course. The men's 8K race will begin at 9 a.m. with the women's 6K race following just behind at 9:45 a.m.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
