MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Cross Country program and head coach Steven Cary have added a pair of newcomers for the 2017 season in this year's early signee period.
Both runners bring to Bobcat Nation deep resumes in Peach State success.
Chapel Hill High's Wilson Moore (Douglasville) is a Region 5-AAAA Cross Country Champion who finished in the top-20 in the State finals. Douglas County runner-up in cross country his final two seasons, Moore was the county's 3200m champion in track. He owns a personal best 15:53 in the 5K, adding a 9:42 in the 3200m and 4:29 in the 1600m.
"Wilson is a very talented young man," said Cary. "He's got the strength to run the 10K, but the speed to hold his own in the mile. I believe he'll be an impact runner for us right away. He's a strong runner and a good student, two traits that are vital to succeed at Georgia College. I'm looking forward to watching Wilson mix it up with our young team next fall as we pursue big goals in the conference and region."
Matt Patterson (Cumming) comes to Bobcat Country from South Forsyth High, where he finished in the top-10 all four years at the USATF Georgia Association Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships. Patterson was in the top-15 in six of his eight races as a senior, including a top-10 finish at the Class AAAAAAA Area 3 Championships. His skills transferred to track, taking a top-three slot in the 3200m twice at the Forsyth County Track Championships. He owns a 15:59 in the 5K, and boasts a 9:49 in the 3200m as well as a 4:33 in the 1600m.
"I've had the pleasure of getting to know Matt for a little over a year now, and one of the things that continues to stick out to me about his running is his consistency," said Cary. "He's a guy that you know what you're going to get every time you put him in the lineup. Matt has a lot of upside as far as his potential goes, and he's a great student on top of that. Matt's consistency and talent will definitely be valuable next year as we look to improve on this year's performances."
Without a single senior on the roster, the youthful Bobcat men had a 2016 featuring a seventh place finish at the PBC Championship, 12th place at the NCAA Southeast Regional, and two other top-10 team finishes. The Bobcats were led all year by the freshman duo of Collin Silliman (Douglasville) and Shawn Olmstead (Buford).
