NEWBERRY, S.C. – An upset bid for No. 25 Georgia College Women's Tennis (2-2) fell short Friday, as the Bobcats lost to No. 19 Queens University (3-0) 4-1.
The Bobcats dropped the doubles point, dropping the first and second flights.
Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) and Valeria Lopez (Galicia, Spain) teamed for a 6-1 loss to Yana Fleyer and Sasha Davidzenka in the first flight. In second doubles, Jordan Bowie (Macon, Georgia) and Paula Garriga (Barcelona, Spain) fell to Isabel Fornies and Caity Klaassen, 6-3.
The Bobcats got their lone point right away in singles, as Lopez blitzed Davidzenka 6-3, 6-2 in the second slot. No. 43 Fleyer got another point for Queens in the first slot with 6-4, 7-5 sets against Richter.
In the third slot, Kim Yatribi (Frejus, France) dropped a three-setter 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 to Fornies. The match came to a close in fourth singles, where Fleming fell short to Viktorija Veselinova 6-4, 6-0.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m., playing host to Augusta University.
